Elizabeth R. Petty Smith, 65, of the McDonald, Tennessee community went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 10, 2009, while surrounded by her family following a brief illness in a local hospital.
She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family, friends and customers. Elizabeth was a lifelong resident of Hamilton County and was a 1962 graduate of Tyner High School in Chattanooga. She was a member of Lookout Valley Baptist Church in Tiftonia. Along with her husband of 45 years, Donald, she was the co-owner of Sun and Shade Garden Center and Western Store in Lookout Valley for 30 years. She managed the garden center and greenhouses and was responsible for the large variety of beautiful flowers, plants and hanging baskets. She also served as the store’s bookkeeper.
Elizabeth had a special passion, love and gift of growing flowers and taking care of plants and always enjoyed providing her Sun and Shade customers with advice for planting and maintaining the beauty of their flowers and plants. Elizabeth especially enjoyed the many relationships and good friends that she made over the years while assisting customers with their gardening needs.
When she was not working at Sun and Shade, Elizabeth enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her five grandchildren, and traveling with her husband and family. She loved taking care of her own flower gardens at home.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Petty.
